BA Theology and Religious Studies

Year 1

Learning outcomes

By the end of Y1 students should have achieved the appropriate level of proficiency in both Christian theology and religious studies, having completed the two L1 core modules: THEO 1140 Religion in Modern Britain and THEO 1000 Jesus and Christian Communities.

They should also have acquired the essential academic skills to progress into Y2 by passing the required 5-credit module THEO 1025 Introduction to Academic Skills in TRS.

Depending on module choice, students with have acquired a Y1 level of knowledge of philosophy of religion, further critical reading skills in TRS and an introductory proficiency in the study of one or more major world religions.

Transferable (key) skills

Students will have had the opportunity to acquire, as defined in the modules specified for the programme:

- qualities and transferable skills necessary for employment in a plural society;
- skills necessary for the exercising of personal responsibility.

Assessment

Achievement will be assessed by a variety of methods in accordance with the learning outcomes of the modules specified for the year/programme and will include:

- demonstrating the knowledge and application of standard concepts, information and techniques relevant to the discipline;
- work that covers a restricted area of the discipline;
- demonstrating emerging abilities, skills and competencies.
