Learning outcomes

Learning outcomes relevant to all Applied Health Suite iBSc programmes
On completion of the Applied Health Suite students should have provided evidence of being able to:

- Describe and explain the organisation and nature of UK health systems, and its key elements in an international context.
- Evaluate the role of the doctor as a teacher and demonstrate evidence of personal learning and teaching skills.
- Explain the importance of taking a systematic critical approach to evidence, and employ the skills to perform a literature review.
- Demonstrate how to formulate a research question, perform a relevant literature search, critically analyse the literature and undertake a research task.
- Demonstrate the principles and practicalities of research ethics and research governance.
- Demonstrate the importance of accurate and clear oral and written communications, including the use of electronic literacy and new communication methods.
- Apply an understanding of the role of reflection in learning, and construct a personal learning style which recognises and includes reflection.

Learning outcomes specific to programme: Primary Care
On completion of the programme, students should have provided evidence of being able to:

- Demonstrate, through the clinical work stream, a clear grounding in continuity of care, unscheduled primary care, the primary care team and in the management of acute and chronic diseases in the community
- Evaluate the nature of clinician and doctor/patient consultations including organisational, cultural and language factors affecting doctor-patient communication in the consultation
- Conduct a satisfactory patient consultation, within the restrictions of clinical knowledge, and be able to reflect on the strengths and weaknesses shown by themselves and others when consulting

Assessment

Achievement will be assessed by a variety of methods in accordance with the learning outcomes of the modules specified for the programme.
This will include:
- demonstrating the ability to apply a broad range of aspects of the discipline.
- work that draws on a wide variety of material.
- the ability to evaluate and criticise received opinion.
- evidence of an ability to conduct independent, in depth enquiry within the discipline.
