Learning outcomes
On completion of the year/programme students should have provided evidence of being able to:- demonstrate a familiarity with the basic concepts, information, practical competencies and techniques which are associated with the theory and practice of work as an assistant healthcare practitioner with particular reference to- the nature and context of professional working in health and social care settings;- biological, psychological, sociological and policy knowledge;- delivery to appropriate standards of delegated, protocol-based elements of health and social care;- identify ethical issues in their professional practice and be able to work these through where they present questions of conflicting priorities and moral imperatives;- show awareness of the global context of their healthcare practice and recognise the nature and impact of the cultural settings of their work; - use basic generic and subject specific intellectual qualities i.e.- be able to communicate the results of their work;- present a structured and coherent simple argument;- be able to interpret and evaluate the underlying concepts and principles of the discipline;- evaluate qualitative and/or quantitative data;- demonstrate an ability to evaluate the appropriateness of different approaches to problem solving associated with the discipline;- appreciate their strengths and weaknesses as learners;- demonstrate an awareness of professional and disciplinary boundaries;- demonstrate mathematical ability to GCSE level C/4
Transferable (key) skills
Students will have had the opportunity to acquire, as defined in the modules specified for the programme:- qualities and transferable skills necessary for employment in assistant practitioner roles in health or social care;- skills necessary for the exercising of professional responsibility as an assistant healthcare practitioner
Assessment
Achievement will be assessed by a variety of methods in accordance with the learning outcomes of the modules specified for the year/programme and will include:- demonstrating the knowledge and application of standard concepts, information and techniques relevant to assistant practitioner roles;- use of a range of formats for assessment that develop skills of effective communication for both academic and professional settings;- demonstrating abilities, skills and competencies to appropriate clinical standards;
