- demonstrate knowledge of the historical development of cinema and photography and the ability to situate current practice within debates concerning the creative industries.
- demonstrate knowledge of and the ability to apply critical and theoretical models to the study of cinema and photography.
- apply critical thinking to developing practice and evaluate practice as a means of exploring theoretical concepts.
- demonstrate a critical awareness of the relationships between cultural production, representation and audiences.
- produce creative and critically informed practice that demonstrates the ability to use current production and editing tools and solve creative problems.
- demonstrate an awareness of the global nature of critical discourses around convergent lens-based practice.
- produce practice that demonstrates the divergences and synergies between cinema and photography in the communication of ideas and concepts.
- demonstrate an understanding of the changing professional demands of the cultural industries and of the changing nature of cultural traditions within lens-based practices.

Assessment

Achievement for the Postgraduate Diploma and Postgraduate Certificate will be assessed by a variety of methods in accordance with the learning outcomes of the programme and will involve the achievement of the students in:
- demonstrating the ability to apply breadth and/or depth of knowledge to a complex specialist area;
- drawing on a range of perspectives on an area of study;
- evaluating received opinion;
- making sound judgements whilst understanding the limitations on judgements made in the absence of complete data.
