MA Technology, Education and Learning(Distance Learning)

Year 1

Learning outcomes

On completion of the programme students should have shown evidence of being able to:

- demonstrate in-depth specialist knowledge of techniques relevant to the design and evaluation of digital technologies-based materials;
- demonstrate a sophisticated understanding of concepts informed by knowledge and a critical appreciation of the significance ofdigital technologies for education, teaching and learning;
- exhibit mastery in the exercise of generic and subject-specific intellectual abilities;
- adopt an active and self-reflective approach in learning;
- develop appropriate professional working relationships with others;
- demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of the techniques applicable to their own research or advanced scholarship;
- engage in the formulation of ideas and relevant issues;
- develop, implement, and execute plans to investigate and evaluate issues;
- evaluate critically and creatively, current issues, advanced scholarship, and research about the significance ofdigital technologies for education, teaching and learning.

Transferable (key) skills

Masters (Taught) will have had the opportunity to acquire the following abilities as defined in the modules specified for the programme:

- All the modules support the skills necessary to undertake a higher research degree and/or for employment in a higher capacity in industry or area of professional practice. The Critical study develops this in particular;
- Through the assignments and the programme's activities students have to evaluate their own achievement and that of others. Modules 1 and 3 are particularly significant for this;
- Self direction and effective decision making in complex and unpredictable situations are integral to activities and the on-line medium of the programme. The Critical study supports this process very clearly;
- Independent learning and the ability to work in a way which ensures continuing professional development are developed through the programme's activities and assignments. All modules contribute to this, but modules 3 and 4 emphasise these skills;
- Critically to engage in the development of professional/disciplinary boundaries and norms through rigorous academic study. Modules 1 and 2 are particularly significant for this.

Assessment

Achievement for the degree of Master (taught programme) will be assessed by a variety of methods in accordance with the learning outcomes of the modules specified for the year/programme and will involve the achievement of the students in:
- demonstrating the ability to apply breadth and/or depth of knowledge to a complex specialist area Modules 1 and 2 enable learners to apply theoretical aspects to practical digital technologies actvities. Modules 3 and 4 emphasise the application of knowledge in practical contexts;
- drawing on a range of perspectives on an area of study. This is supported by all modules;
- evaluating received opinion. All modules enable learners to demonstrate their critical and analytic capabilities;
- making sound judgments whilst understanding the limitations on judgments made in the absence of complete data. All modules provide the opportunity to demonstrate this quality, and is particularly evident in the Critical Study.
