MSc Environment and Development with Integrated International Fieldwork

Learning outcomes

On completion of this programme students will be able to:

- understand the need to address social, economic and environmental issues regarding development in both the global North and South in a holistic way;
- appreciate, identify, and apply suitable interdisciplinary approaches to development policy, planning and practice;
- appreciate and use the key inter-disciplinary research methods and approaches that are used in development processes;
- link knowledge and research to specific policy instruments and management initiatives;
- use their experience of working in interdisciplinary teams on problems related to both environment and/or development.

Transferable (key) skills

The students will have had the opportunity to acquire the following abilities as defined in the modules specified for the programme:

- a practical and working understanding of the processes whereby environment, development and sustainability policies and interventions are made;
- the skills required to conduct multi-disciplinary research on environment and development related topics;
- the skills necessary to undertake a higher research degree and/or for employment in a higher capacity in industry or area of professional practice;
- evaluating their own achievement and that of others;
- self direction and effective decision making in complex and unpredictable situations;
- independent learning and the ability to work in a way which ensures continuing professional development;
- critical engagement in the development of professional/disciplinary boundaries and norms.
