Learning outcomes

PG Certificate
Achievement for the PG Certificate students should have shown some evidence of being able:
- to demonstrate a graduate level understanding of some concepts, information or techniques relevant to mechatronics and robotics;
- to exercise generic and subject-specific intellectual abilities;
- to evaluate current issues, research and advanced scholarship in some aspects of mechatronics and robotics.

PG Diploma
Achievement for the PG Diploma students should have shown some evidence of being able:
- to demonstrate a graduate level understanding of various concepts, information or techniques at the forefront of mechatronics and robotics;
- to exhibit a degree of mastery in the exercise of generic and subject-specific intellectual abilities;
- to demonstrate an understanding of some techniques applicable to their own research or scholarship within the mechatronics and robotics fields;
- to evaluate current issues, research and advanced scholarship in aspects of mechatronics and robotics.

MSc
On completion of the programme students should have shown evidence of being able:
- to demonstrate in-depth, specialist knowledge and mastery of techniques relevant to the discipline and/or to demonstrate a sophisticated understanding of concepts, information and techniques at the forefront of Mechatronics and Robotics;
- to exhibit mastery in the exercise of generic and subject-specific intellectual abilities;
- to demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of techniques applicable to their own research or advanced scholarship in the field of Mechatronics and Robotics;
- to take a proactive and self-reflective role in working and to develop professional relationships with others;
- proactively to formulate ideas and hypotheses and to develop, implement and execute plans by which to evaluate these;
- critically and creatively to evaluate current issues, research and advanced scholarship in the discipline.

Transferable (key) skills

Masters (Taught), Postgraduate Diploma & Postgraduate Certificate students will have had the opportunity to acquire the following abilities as defined in the modules specified for the programme:
- the skills necessary to undertake a higher research degree and/or for employment in a higher capacity in industry or area of professional practice;
- evaluating their own achievement and that of others;
- self direction and effective decision making in complex and unpredictable situations;
- independent learning and the ability to work in a way which ensures continuing professional development;
- critically to engage in the development of professional/disciplinary boundaries and norms.

Assessment

PG Certificate and PG Diploma
Achievement for the Postgraduate Certificate and Diploma will be assessed by methods – including written examinations, project work, practical reports and oral examinations - in accordance with the learning outcomes of the modules studied and will involve the achievement of the students in:
- evidencing an ability to conduct independent enquiry into topics in Mechatronics and Robotics;
- demonstrating the ability to apply breadth or depth of knowledge to a some specialist areas of Mechatronics and Robotics.

Achievement for the degree of Master (taught programme) will be assessed by a variety of methods in accordance with the learning outcomes of the modules specified for the year/programme and will involve the achievement of the students in:
- evidencing an ability to conduct independent in-depth enquiry in the field of Mechatronics and robotics;
- demonstrating the ability to apply breadth and/or depth of knowledge to a complex specialist area;
- drawing on a range of perspectives on an area of study;
- evaluating and criticising received opinion;
- make reasoned judgements whilst understanding the limitations on judgements made in the absence of complete data.

In order to qualify for the award of the MSc degree, students must satisfy the following conditions:
i) Obtain passes in modules with a total credit value of at least 150;
ii) Obtain a mark of at least 40% in any ELEC assessment component which is worth more than 4.5 credits out of this 150 credit total;
iii) Obtain an overall average programme grade of at least 5.0;
iv) Obtain a mark of at least 40% in any failed modules.
