Learning outcomes

On completion of this course, students will be able to:

- start to make clinical use of the concepts and theories of change inherent in the different models of Family & Systemic Therapy

- be sensitive to, evaluate and change stance in response to feedback

- demonstrate an awareness of self in relation to family of origin issues, beliefs, values and life cycle stage, and the effects of these on the formation of the therapeutic relationship and the course of therapy

- contrast systemic approaches in relation to modern and post-modern perspectives

- Demonstrate change in their practice at work in accordance with systemic principles

- locate systemic work with clients or in agencies within the wider professional, social, cultural and political contexts

- develop a critical stance towards the theory and application of Family Therapy and Systemic Practice

- demonstrate an understanding of, and commitment to, anti-oppressive practice

- adhere to the codes of ethics for the Association for Family Therapy
