Learning outcomes

On completion of the year/programme students should have provided evidence of being able to:

- development of an in-depth knowledge and critical understanding of the histories and theories of art and architecture and material culture and the history and practices of art galleries and museums
- development of critical reflection through a sustained engagement with the practices and techniques of close reading associated with museology and the histories of art
- an ability to carry out various forms of research for essays and projects and begin to develop dissertation ideas involving sustained independent enquiry

Transferable (key) skills

Students will have had the opportunity to acquire, as defined in the modules specified for the programme:

- communication, interpersonal skills, learning skills, numeracy, self-management
- use of IT
- problem-solving, decision-making, critical judgement
- the collection, collation and analysis of material and its communication and presentation.
- the location and retrieval of bibliographic and source material
- the use of more sophisticated databases and exploitation of the internet.

Assessment

Achievement will be assessed by a variety of methods in accordance with the learning outcomes of the modules specified for the year/programme and will include:

- essays demonstrate the ability to construct a coherent argument in written form
- unseen examination tests the ability to demonstrate knowledge and understanding
- exhibition projects demonstrate research skills and the creative presentation of material in various forms
- oral presentations test presentation skills and audience engagement skills
