Learning outcomes
On completion of Year 1, students should have provided evidence of having:- Acquired the basic interpretative skills needed to analyse both imaginative (literary) and informative (scientific) texts;- Developed a preliminary understanding of the cultural and historical contexts from which these texts spring and of the ethical issues they instantiate;- Acquired foundational knowledge of historical and contemporary environmental issues and debates, and a basic grasp of different environmental policies and practices.
Transferable (key) skills
Students will have had the opportunity to acquire, as defined in the modules specified for the programme:- Skills necessary for effective communication (potentially applicable within a range of professions);- Skills necessary for the exercise of personal responsibility in different contexts.
Assessment
Achievement will be assessed by a variety of methods in accordance with the learning outcomes of the modules specified for the year/programme and will include:- Application of general concepts, information and techniques relevant to English studies and environmental social science;- Knowledge of more specific areas of both disciplines as well as the relationship between them.
