Learning outcomes

On completion of the year/programme students should have provided evidence of being able to:
[1] Make appropriate use both of scholarly writings and of primary sources, with sensitivity to issues of interpretation and appreciation of the uncertainty, ambiguity and limitations of knowledge
[2] Identify the underlying issues in a debate, analyse complex problems and detect relevance and irrelevance
[3] Demonstrate an understanding of the historical development of science
[4] Appreciate some of the philosophical presuppositions and implications of scientific knowledge
[5] Construct a reasoned argument for a point of view, and present it in clear, structured prose
[6] Conform to professional boundaries and norms where applicable
[7] Engage in informed reflection on their own lives and place in the world, and on the presuppositions of other people, other times and other disciplines.

Students will have had the opportunity to acquire, as defined in the modules specified for the programme:
[1] Qualities and transferable skills necessary for employment, such as independence of mind, initiative, locating and handling information, analytical ability, problem-solving, intellectual integrity, empathy
[2] Skills necessary for the communication of information, ideas, problems and solutions in a variety of ways to a variety of audiences
[3] Skills necessary for exercising of personal responsibility, including self-discipline and self-direction
[4] The ability to undertake appropriate further training of a professional or equivalent nature
