BA Philosophy, Psychology and Scientific Thought

Year 2

Learning outcomes

On completion of the year students should have provided evidence of being able to:

- demonstrate a broad understanding of the key concepts and information in philosophy, HPS and psychology;
- apply generic and subject specific intellectual qualities to standard situations;
- appreciate and employ some of the main methods of enquiry in philosophy, HPS and psychology; and critically evaluate the appropriateness of some different methods of enquiry in them.
- use a range of techniques to initiate and undertake the analysis of textual and others sources of information;
- adjust to professional and disciplinary boundaries between philosophy, HPS and psychology;
- effectively communicate information, arguments and analysis in a variety of forms: essay, seminar and examination papers.

Transferable (key) skills

Students will have had the opportunity to acquire, as defined in the modules specified for the programme:

- some elementary qualities and transferable skills necessary for employment
- skills necessary for the exercising of personal responsibility
- decision making.

Assessment

Achievement will be assessed by a variety of methods in accordance with the learning outcomes of the modules specified for the year and will include:

- demonstrating the ability to apply a range of perspectives to analyse the topics of mind and knowledge
- work that may to some extent be descriptive in nature but drawing on a variety of analytical resources
- demonstrating basic professional competencies relevant to philosophy, HPS and psychology
- the ability to evaluate received opinion in philosophy, HPS and psychology.
