Learning outcomes

On completion of the year abroad students should be able to demonstrate:

- An ability to communicate confidently and proficiently with native or other competent speakers of Spanish across the sometimes unpredictable and complex range of aspects of everyday life, work and/or study in a foreign culture;
- First-hand knowledge and appreciation of the target culture;
- Enhanced cultural self-awareness.

Transferable (key) skills

Students will have had the opportunity to acquire, as defined in the modules specified for the programme:

- Oral, written and practical skills in Spanish;
- The organisation of life and study in Spanish speaking countries;
- Inter-personal skills required to operate in Spanish-speaking society;
- The ability to appreciate their strengths and weaknesses as learners;
- Skills necessary for the communication of information;
- Skills necessary for the exercising of personal responsibility and decision making.

Assessment

The achievement of the programme outcomes will be assessed by a variety of methods in accordance with the learning outcomes of the modules specified for each subject and will include:

- Demonstrating the ability to apply a broad range of aspects of Spanish and Theatre/Performance;
- Work that draws on a wide variety of material associated with the disciplines;
- The ability to evaluate and criticise received opinion;
- Work that is both evaluative and analytical.

Achievement will be assessed by a variety of methods in accordance with the learning outcomes of the modules specified for the year/programme and will include:

- Demonstrating a broad knowledge base within the discipline;
- Work that draws on a wide variety of material and is typically both evaluative and creative;
- The ability to evaluate and criticise received opinion;
- Demonstrating evidence of the ability to conduct independent, in-depth enquiry within the discipline.
