Learning outcomes

Learning outcomes relevant to all Applied Health Suite iBSc programmes
On completion of the Applied Health Suite students should have provided evidence of being able to:

- Describe and explain the organisation and nature of UK health systems, and its key elements in an international context.
- Evaluate the role of the doctor as a teacher and demonstrate evidence of personal learning and teaching skills.
- Explain the importance of taking a systematic critical approach to evidence, and employ the skills to perform a literature review.
- Demonstrate how to formulate a research question, perform a relevant literature search, critically analyse the literature and undertake a research task.
- Demonstrate the principles and practicalities of research ethics and research governance.
- Demonstrate the importance of accurate and clear oral and written communications, including the use of electronic literacy and new communication methods.
- Apply an understanding of the role of reflection in learning, and construct a personal learning style which recognises and includes reflection.

Learning outcomes specific to programme: Medical Education



On completion of the programme, students should have provided evidence of being able to:
- Describe medical educational policy, changing trends in education nationally and internationally and the role of organisations such as the General Medical Council and Postgraduate Education and Training Board in informing medical education practice
- Appreciate the principles of quality assurance in medical education
- Demonstrate understanding of how to become professional educators and the importance of demonstrating professionalism
- Appreciate the importance of recent trends in medical education including its international dimensions, equity and social inclusion and access and participation in medical education
- Illustrate critical insight into a range of pedagogies for studying medical education
- Develop an understanding of conceptual frameworks in medical education practice and process
- Appreciate the principles of educational theory and its practical application in learning, teaching and assessment.
- Compare teaching and assessment skills using a variety of approaches and demonstrate appropriate and timely application of these skills
- Demonstrate an understanding of the principles of curriculum development including strengths and weaknesses of different types of curricula
- Apply the principles of qualitative and quantitative research methodology to the design of educational research projects
- Demonstrate acquisition of the knowledge, skills and confidence to undertake future scholarship in the area of medical education

Assessment

Achivement will be assessed by a variety of methods in accordance with the learning outcomes of the modules specified for the programme.

This will include:
- demonstrating the abiltiy to apply a broad range of aspects of the discipline.
- work that draws on a wide variety of material
- the ability to evaluate and criticise received opinion
- evidence of an ability to conduct independent in depth enquiry within the discipline
