Learning outcomes

On completion of the year/programme students should be able to:

- Demonstrate sound knowledge of the basic maths, physics, chemistry, and environmental science subjects required for further study.
- Demonstrate sound knowledge of basic atmospheric and meteorological processes.
- Demonstrate an ability to undertake laboratory and field work, to collect data and to use computer programmes.
- Demonstrate an ability to synthesis new information presented in a wide range of formats.
- Plan and report on investigations using written and numerical material.

Transferable (key) skills

On completion of the year/programme, students will have had the opportunity to acquire, as defined in the modules specified for the programme, a basic proficiency in the qualities and transferable skills necessary for employment in environmental, meteorology and other careers, including:

- Communication skills, including verbal, written and graphical presentation of material
- Numerical skills, including ability to use physical equations to understand behaviour of natural systems
- Field and laboratory skills and the analysis and interpretation of data sets
- Self-management skills, including ability to schedule tasks, respond appropriately to feedback and reflect on progress.

Assessment

Achievement will be assessed by a variety of methods in accordance with the learning outcomes of each module:

- demonstrating sound knowledge and application of substantive learning outcomes
- demonstrating emerging abilities and competencies in transferable (key) skills.
