Year 3

Learning outcomes

On completion of the year Industrial Placement students should have provided evidence of having:

- gained experience in applying specialist, degree related knowledge while working in a non-academic environment;
- an enhanced understanding of an area of meteorology and climate science;
- developed expertise in a range of scientific skills;
- produced a written report to a standard which is acceptable to both employers and academic staff;
- developed their transferable skills in a workplace environment;
- gained experience of workplace practices.

Assessment

Industrial Placements: Assessed on Pass/Fail basis according to the module specification for SOEE8001 Professional Placement, including:

- demonstrating the ability to apply a broad range of aspects of meteorology and climate science;
- work that draws on a wide variety of material;
- the ability to evaluate and criticise received opinion;
- evidence of an ability to conduct independent, in depth enquiry within meteorology and climate science;
- work that is typically both evaluative and creative.

SOEE8001 will not contribute to the degree classification. This will be determined from the Level 2 and Level 3 marks as in the case of the 3-year degree.

Students who fail SOEE8001 will not qualify for the award of the degree with Industrial Placement and will be transferred back to the relevant BSc Honours programme to take the Year 3 modules in their final year.
