Learning outcomes
On completion of the year/programme students should have provided evidence of being able to:• demonstrate an understanding of the basic concepts and theoretical paradigms of music analysis, theory and history;• display an ability to apply these concepts and paradigms in a range of different musical perspectives;• show an awareness of current developments in music psychology • show an awareness of approaches and developments in chosen areas such as performance, composition and technology• develop an understanding of musical processes through analytical studies;• develop an understanding of the ideas of style and genre both in musicological and cultural terms;• acquire basic skills in academic research and writing, engaging with specific set texts and showing an ability to find and research relevant texts independently;• demonstrate an ability to reflect critically on their own progress and achievement;• begin to understand the links between theory and practice, and the interrelationships between the various sub-disciplines of music.

Students will have had the opportunity to acquire, as defined in the modules specified for the programme:• qualities and transferable skills necessary for employment related to the music and music psychology, and other related disciplines;• skills necessary for the exercising of personal responsibility;
Assessment
Achievement will be assessed by a variety of methods in accordance with the learning outcomes of the modules specified for the year/programme and will include:• demonstrating the knowledge and application of standard concepts, information and techniques relevant to the discipline;• work that covers a restricted area of the discipline;• demonstrating emerging abilities, skills and competencies;
