MSc Organizational Psychology

Learning outcomes

Our students will:

i. Be able to describe and critically compare, evaluate and apply the theories, concepts, empirical research and current issues from the domain of organizational psychology (PA 1)
ii. Be able to communicate a good awareness of current debates and controversies in OP scholarship and practice through critical appraisal of empirical and theoretical research (PA 1]
iii. Be able to demonstrate a detailed and critical awareness of research design, and be able to apply this knowledge practically in order to address real-world research problems (PA 2, 4, 5)
iv. Be able to appraise the relative strengths and weaknesses of different qualitative and quantitative methodologies, and apply this knowledge in designing and managing applied research problems (PA 4, 5]
v. Be able to apply their technical and analytical skills, and knowledge of concepts and theories from OP, in order to competently identify needs/problems, formulate and implement solutions, and evaluate outcomes, (PA 1, 2, 3, 4, 5)
vi. Be able to present a business case highlighting the added value of OP work in addressing organizational issues (PA 3)
vii. Be able to work effectively with others to solve problems (PA 3)
viii. Be able to undertake an original and independent piece of applied OP research, employing appropriate research methods and analytical techniques in order to develop and test research questions (PA 1, 2, 3, 4, 5)
ix. Be able to demonstrate global and cultural awareness when evaluating and applying theoretical concepts and research methodology in the real world (PA 1, 2, 3, 4, 5)

Assessment

Achievement for the degree of Master (taught programme) will be assessed by a variety of methods in accordance with the learning outcomes of the modules specified for the year/programme and will involve the achievement of the students in:

- evidencing an ability to conduct independent in-depth enquiry within the discipline;
- demonstrating the ability to apply breadth and/or depth of knowledge to a complex specialist area;
- drawing on a range of perspectives on an area of study;
- evaluating and criticising received opinion;
- making reasoned judgements whilst understanding the limitations on judgements made in the absence of complete data.
