Learning outcomes

On completion of the programme students should have shown evidence of being able to:
LO 10 Critically review developments in medical and/or health professional education and understand any implications
for their own practice
LO 11 Critique the principles and models of curriculum development in medical and/or health professional education
LO 12 Identify, analyse and prioritise issues in reviewing and redesigning curricula, especially in relation to the
development of blended and e-learning initiatives.
LO 13 Understand the role of professional and regulatory bodies in curriculum development for medical and/or
health professional education
LO 14 Identify and distinguish leadership from management in the context of medical and/or health professional
education
LO 15 Critique key concepts, methods and tools in relation to effective leadership and management in medical
and/or health professional education
LO 16 Critique the challenges of leading and managing medical and/or health professional education in
and for diverse national and international cultural contexts
LO 17 Analyse key management concepts, methods and tools and their effectiveness in relation to managing change
in medical and/or health professional education
LO 18 Critique leadership and management models and skills
LO 19 Critique theoretical perspectives on teaching and learning in medical education
LO 20 Use the evidence base to evaluate and reflect on their own teaching and learning and/or that of others
LO 21 Conduct, and critically appraise, a literature search using library and computing facilities
LO 22 Identify a research question relevant to their medical and/or health profession education practice and
based upon critical reflective insight and synthesis of the available evidence.
LO 23 Integrate knowledge of different types of research paradigms and methodological approaches into planning
their research design
LO 24 Make informed decisions about research paradigms, design, methods of data collection and data analysis
which align with their methodological choices
LO 25 Analyse the ethical issues raised by their proposed project and prepare a submission for ethical approval.

Assessment

Reflecting on and synthesising key concepts, theories, practices and skills linked to change management, curriculum
design, development and review.
• Developing an in- depth understanding of theoretical perspectives on leading and managing learning and teaching in
education within their practice area
• Applying academic and research skills
• Evaluating their personal leadership skills and preferred leadership models
• Practicing strategic thinking and problem solving.
