Learning outcomes

Programme Aims:
1. Develop a critical understanding of the emerging field of Arts Fundraising and Leadership using a range of contemporary theoretical and cultural policy frameworks
2. Understand and critique related theoretical concepts such as Arts Management, Arts Marketing, Cultural Leadership, Cultural Entrepreneurship and Change Management, and apply them to the field of Arts Fundraising and Leadership
3. Undertake a sustained period of professional practice in the field of Arts Fundraising and Philanthropy, and achieve a series of pre-determined business and professional developmental outcomes, including evidence of successfully planning, implementing, analysing, reporting on and evaluating fundraising activities
4. Engage in a sophisticated level of reflective practice, which illuminates and theorizes both everyday and strategic challenges of professional activity in the field of Arts Fundraising and Philanthropy, including the need to develop excellent leadership and inter-personal skills
5. Critically investigate contemporary Business and Arts Management theory and models and explore the challenges of applying this to the strategic development of twenty-first century arts organisations
6. Identify and explore the challenges unique to leading contemporary arts organisations and the artistic, social, business and policy drivers which contextualise their mission development and delivery.

Learning Outcomes:
• Contextualise the emerging field of Arts Fundraising and Philanthropy and situate it within and alongside relevant theoretical models and policy and frameworks
• Evaluate and critique appropriate theories from Arts Management, Arts Marketing, Cultural Leadership, Cultural Entrepreneurship and Change Management, and apply them to the field of Arts Fundraising and Philanthropy
• Identify and articulate the complex challenges faced by contemporary arts leaders and critically explore the artistic, social, business and policy drivers which contextualise arts organizations’ mission development and delivery.
• Demonstrate understanding of qualitative methods of research and advanced scholarship and apply them with originality to the chosen issue/ problem/ project area
• Demonstrate a comprehensive theoretical understanding of the theoretical context of the chosen issue/ problem/ project area
• Apply change management models, concepts and principles to effect a positive outcome

Transferable (key) skills

Masters (Taught), Postgraduate Diploma & Postgraduate Certificate students will have had the opportunity to acquire the following abilities as defined in the modules specified for the programme:

• the skills necessary to undertake a higher research degree and/or for employment in a higher capacity in industry or area of professional practice;
• evaluating their own achievement and that of others;
• self direction and effective decision making in complex and unpredictable situations;
• independent learning and the ability to work in a way which ensures continuing professional development;
• critically to engage in the development of professional/disciplinary boundaries and norms.
Assessment

Assessment

Achievement for the Postgraduate Certificate will be assessed by a variety of methods (Essay/ group presentation/ Online Journal) in accordance with the learning outcomes of the programme and will involve the achievement of the students in:

• demonstrating the ability to apply breadth and/or depth of knowledge to a complex specialist area (Essay/ presentation)
• drawing on a range of perspectives on an area of study (Essay/ presentation)
• evaluating received opinion (Essay/ presentation/ Online Journal)
• make sound judgements whilst understanding the limitations on judgements made in the absence of complete data (Online Journal).
