Learning outcomes

On completion of the year/programme students should have provided evidence of:

- being able to effectively communicate information, arguments and analysis in a variety of forms;
- being able to demonstrate a knowledge and understanding of one or more aspects of the cultures, history, and social structures of the societies of the country studied;
- demonstrate an awareness and understanding of one or more cultures and societies, other than their own principally Islamic religious, theological and philosophical aspects of Islamic Culture and Civilisation.

Transferable (key) skills

Students will have had the opportunity to acquire, as defined in the modules specified for the programme:

- qualities and transferable skills related to Islamic Studies, valuable for employment, eg be able to gather and analyse information from a variety of paper, audio-visual and electronic sources, be able to use IT effectively both as a means of communication and as an aid to learning;
- skills necessary for the exercising of personal responsibility;
- the ability to appreciate their strengths and weaknesses as learners;
- decision making.

Assessment

Achievement will be assessed by a variety of methods in accordance with the learning outcomes of the modules specified for the year/programme and will include:

- demonstrating the knowledge and application of a broad range of concepts, information and techniques relevant to Islamic Studies;
- work that is often descriptive in nature but drawing on a wide variety of material;
- demonstrating basic professional competencies relevant to Islamic Studies;
- the ability to evaluate and criticise received opinion.
