BSc Sport and Exercise Sciences

Learning outcomes

On completion of the year/programme students should have provided evidence of being able to:
- Demonstrate a familiarity with the basic concepts and principles that underpin the study of sport and exercise sciences;
- Demonstrate a familiarity with the practical competencies and techniques that are standard features sport and exercise sciences;
- Demonstrate a basic understanding of the different research philosophies, methodologies, and data analysis techniques used in sport and exercise sciences;
- Demonstrate awareness of relevant professional and ethical codes of conduct;
- Demonstrate a basic understanding of the key disciplines (biomechanics, motor control, physiology, psychology) that underpin sport and exercise sciences
ummarize information and data from a wide range of sources;
Identify and reflect on contemporary themes and issues in sport and exercise sciences;
- Explain and interpret the underlying theories, concepts and principles of sport and exercise sciences;
- Collect and curate appropriate information;
- Describe and evaluate exercise behaviour and sport performance in the laboratory

Transferable (key) skills

Students will have had the opportunity to acquire, as defined in the modules specified for the programme:
- Time management skills : demonstrate awareness of the amount of time spent on specific activities;
- Client handling skills: practice interacting with clients/participants;
- Team working skills: practice working together in a group;
- Problem solving skills: practice solving problems using a variety of tools/methods;
- Communication skills : practice writing/speaking clearly and concisely;
- Self-directed learning skills: generate learning goals and appreciate their strengths and weaknesses as learners
- Search, find, and review academic sources relevant to sport and exercise sciences;
- Manage/organize data and complete basic analysis of a variety of data;
- Select and evaluate appropriate techniques involved in sport and exercise science testing;
- Undertake laboratory or field based work with due regard for safety

Assessment

Achievement will be assessed by a variety of methods in accordance with the learning outcomes of the modules specified for the year/programme and will include:
- demonstrating the knowledge and application of standard concepts, information and techniques relevant to sport and exercise sciences;
- work that covers a restricted area of sport and exercise sciences;
- demonstrating emerging abilities, skills and competencies.
