Learning outcomes

PG Certificate
Achievement for the PG Certificate students should have shown some evidence of being able:
- to demonstrate a graduate level understanding of some concepts, information or techniques relevant to engineering
technology or business management;
- to exercise generic and subject-specific intellectual abilities;
- to evaluate current issues, research and advanced scholarship in some aspects of engineering technology or business
management.
PG Diploma
Achievement for the PG Diploma students should have shown some evidence of being able:
- to demonstrate a graduate level understanding of various concepts, information or techniques at the forefront of
engineering technology and business management;
- to exhibit a degree of mastery in the exercise of generic and subject-specific intellectual abilities;
- to demonstrate an understanding of some techniques applicable to their own research or scholarship within the engineering
technology and business management fields;
- to evaluate current issues, research and advanced scholarship in aspects of engineering technology or business
management.
MSc
On completion of the programme students should have shown evidence of being able:
- to demonstrate a sophisticated understanding of concepts, information and techniques at the forefront of of engineering
technology and business management;
- to exhibit mastery in the exercise of generic and subject-specific intellectual abilities;
- to demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of techniques applicable to their own research or advanced scholarship in
engineering technology and business management;
- to take a proactive and self-reflective role in working and to develop professional relationships with others;
- proactively to formulate ideas and hypotheses and to develop, implement and execute plans by which to evaluate these;
- critically and creatively to evaluate current issues, research and advanced scholarship in engineering technology and
business management.

Transferable (key) skills

Postgraduate Certificate, Postgraduate Diploma and MSc students will have had the opportunity to acquire the following
abilities as defined in the modules studied:
- the skills necessary to undertake a higher research degree and for employment in a higher capacity in industry or
professional practice;
- evaluating their own achievement and that of others;
- self direction and effective decision making in complex and unpredictable situations;
- independent learning and the ability to work in a way which ensures continuing professional development;
- critically to engage in the development of professional/disciplinary boundaries and norms

Assessment

PG Certificate, PG Diploma and MSc
Achievement for the PG Certificate, PG Diploma and MSc will be assessed by methods including written examinations,
project work, practical reports and oral examinations in accordance with the learning outcomes of the modules studied and
will involve the achievement of the students in:
- evidencing an ability to conduct independent enquiry into topics in engineering technology or business management;
- demonstrating the ability to apply breadth or depth of knowledge to some specialist areas of electronic/electrical
engineering technology or business management, decision-making or innovation.

Programmes of study in the School of Electronic & Electrical Engineering are subject to rules for progression and award which are slightly different from the University’s standard rules. Full details of these rules are available in the Code of Practice on Assessment (CoPA) applicable to the year of study. Current and prospective students should make themselves aware of the criteria for progression from one year of study to the next and the criteria for the receipt of an award.
