Learning outcomes
On completion of Level 3, students should have provided evidence of being able to:- demonstrate a coherent and detailed command of the key concepts, information, practical competencies and techniques which are standard features of English studies and Theatre Studies;- use generic and subject-specific qualities, ie,> present with fluency a structured and coherent argument> have an advanced knowledge of critical terminology> have an advanced knowledge of linguistic terminology;- have experience of English literature from a range of literary periods and locations, especially those prior to 1800;- have a critical understanding of the importance of the literary, cultural and socio-historical contexts in which literature is written and read, especially those prior to 1800;- analyse live theatre performances from an advanced critical perspective;- have an advanced understanding of key issues in current professional theatre practice;- have experience and understanding of current issues in the discipline of theatre studies;- have command of the ways in which theatre theory and theatre practice may be interrelated and integrated;- develop and deploy dynamically and self-consciously a range of critical skills;- develop and deploy dynamically and self-consciously a range of analytical skills;- demonstrate a critical knowledge of up to four particular and specific literary and language fields, facilitated either through the choice and pursuit of research-led option modules or via the planning and production of a dissertation;- demonstrate experience of the practical exploration of significant matters via the medium of theatre, primarily through the creation of performance-based practical essay.

Assessment
Achievement will be assessed by a variety of methods in accordance with the learning outcomes of the modules specified for the year/programme and will include demonstrating:- the knowledge and application of concepts, information and techniques relevant to the disciplines;- the ability to construct an argument;- the ability to carry out and present research;- knowledge of English Literature, dramatic texts, 'performance texts' and theatre theory;- the ability to work within a group towards performance-based presentations;- the ability to be critical of scholarly work.
