Learning outcomes

BA (Hons) Learning and Teaching

On completion of the BA Learning and Teaching students should have demonstrated :

Knowledge and informed understanding of :
-the design and delivery of the curriculum and of the rationale and techniques for assessment used in learning settings;
-the wider social, political and economic contexts within which learning occurs;
-relevant concepts, knowledge, practical skills and methods of enquiry in teaching and learning in both a research and work context;
-educational processes and practices;
-models of pedagogy;
-relevant research techniques;
-relevant current research.

Ability to :
-Demonstrate a conceptual understanding which enables the development and sustaining of an evidence-based argument
-Critically evaluate models of pedagogy
-Effectively communicate complex information, arguments, evaluation and analysis in a variety of forms;
-Actively engage with recent research and scholarship in the learning and teaching discipline
-Demonstrate an understanding and facility for the application and analysis of appropriate research techniques
-Apply knowledge and critical understanding in order to initiate and carry out a research project
-Demonstrate advanced skills and competences and a reflective approach in a professional teaching or learning support role;
-Meet professional standards where relevant
-Exercise the following professional skills:
-Contribute to the planning & development of learning activities
-Recognise & respond to the need to support & include all learners
-Monitor learner progress & provide feedback using a range of assessment techniques
-Contribute to the selection, preparation & differentiation of suitable learning resources
-Develop & support effective strategies to ensure acknowledgement of diversity & equality of opportunity
-Commit to collaborative & co-operative working with colleagues
-Commit to continuing professional development & evaluation of practice
- Demonstrate the correct use of standard English including grammar, punctuation and spelling

Transferable (key) skills

Students will have had the opportunity to acquire, as defined in the modules specified for the programme:

- qualities and transferable skills necessary for professional work in learning and teaching;;
- skills necessary for the communication and information in a variety of formats;
- skills necessary to identify and undertake appropriate professional development.

Assessment

Achievement will be assessed by a variety of methods in accordance with the learning outcomes of the modules specified for the programme and will include:

- demonstrating the ability to apply a broad range of aspects of the discipline;
- work that draws on a wide variety of material;
- the ability to evaluate and criticise received opinion;
- demonstrate a broad knowledge base.
