Learning outcomes

By the end of Y1 students should have:
a) developed a foundational knowledge and understanding of select approaches, methods, theories and concepts in theology and religious studies
b) developed a basic knowledge and understanding of critical issues and debates in theology and religious studies, such as those concerning gender, (post)colonialism, normativity and subjectivity
c) gained an understanding of basic concepts, vocabulary and information about various religious traditions and be able to demonstrate the ability to use them in discussing specific examples of practice, thought and organisation
d) acquired a sound academic basis for more advanced modules studying theology and religious studies at Levels 2 and 3
e) developed an ability to articulate and defend their views both verbally and in writing, and to appreciate their strengths and weaknesses as learners and researchers

Transferable (key) skills

Students will have had the opportunity to evidence and develop:
- a basic level of analytical and critical thinking;
- the communication of information, ideas, problems and solutions in a limited variety of ways;
- qualities and transferable skills necessary for employment in a plural society with a basic subject specialist knowledge of religion, politics and society;
- skills necessary for the exercising of personal responsibility.

Assessment

Achievement of the programme learning outcomes, and evidence of transferable skills, will be assessed by a variety of methods through the modules specified for the level and may include essays, reports, exams, group work, presentations, reflective writing.
Assessment will be designed in order to assess programme level, as well as module level, learning.
