Learning outcomes

This programme offers a unique blend of technical knowledge of textiles and fashion technology with corresponding skills in design, innovation, marketing and research that sets it apart from its competitors both in the UK and internationally. Studying the three pillars of design, technology and management within the context of sustainability allows the student to develop a broad understanding of the key aspects of textile technology and design needed for the development of innovative products in the fashion and clothing industry. With the focus on sustainability, which is recognised as a major challenge to the industry, the programme will create graduates with high employability value.

These attributes prepare graduates with the skills, knowledge and practical experience that will allow them to develop their career opportunities across a diverse range of retail and fashion roles including buying, product development, technology, and retail and supply chain management. There will also be other career opportunities to work in the fashion industry such as working in the supply chain.

The curriculum consists of a core set of modules that deliver a key technical and conceptual framework, complemented by an exciting range of options and Discovery modules rooted in staff research activity. Students will have the opportunity to identify their own specialist interest within the curriculum and experience a range of different approaches. The teaching team offer a wide variety of disciplinary specialisms from across the fields of design, technology and management. Suitably qualified students will be able to Study Abroad or opt for a Year in Industry, thereby broadening their experience and strengthening global and cultural insights.

Assessment

Achievement will be assessed by a variety of methods in accordance with the learning outcomes of the modules specified for the year/programme and will include:
1. demonstrating the knowledge and application of standard concepts, information and techniques relevant to the discipline;
2. work that covers a restricted area of the discipline;
3. demonstrating emerging abilities, skills and competencies;
