Learning outcomes

On completion of the programme students should have provided evidence of having:

- a detailed understanding of a range of environmental and geological systems, their history, and how they reflect key processes, along with issues of resource use within such systems.
- an understanding of the intellectual development of the earth sciences and important theoretical perspectives applied in the study of environmental and geological systems;
- a detailed appreciation of the practical contributions made by earth scientists to debates and policy on environmental and resource issues, and the environmental impacts of human activity, along with an understanding of their potential for continuing such contributions;
- the skills necessary to engage with scientific ideas and theory;
- laboratory and field-based skills in environmental and geological analysis and/or skills in the application of quantitative analysis and geographical information systems to environmental study;
- skills in teamwork, investigation, presentation and communication.
