Learning outcomes

On completion of the programme students should have shown evidence of being able to:
- develop an integrated and comprehensive understanding of the process of biological drug development;
- critically evaluate the current science underpinning a range of technical areas of biological drug development including discovery, manufacturing, pre-clinical testing, clinical safety and efficacy;
- develop a sophisticated understanding of the legal regulatory framework and its implementation in biological drug development;
- demonstrate advance knowledge of the commercial and social drivers shaping the biopharmaceutical industry;
- demonstrate mastery in a range of practical techniques appropriate to biological drug development;
- design, plan and execute an independent and in-depth research project in an area of biological drug development;
- develop advanced problem-solving, interpretation and data analysis skills, demonstrated through a range of activities including design projects, pre-clinical and clinical proposals and data generated during research work;
- demonstrate advanced ability to communicate information and defend ideas in writing and verbally evidenced through the production of written reports and oral presentations;
- take a proactive and self-reflective role in working to develop professional relationships with others; including the ability to lead and work in teams.

Transferable (key) skills

Masters (Taught), Postgraduate Diploma & Postgraduate Certificate students will have had the opportunity to acquire the following abilities as defined in the modules specified for the programme:
- the skills necessary for employment in a higher capacity in the biopharmaceutical industry;

Assessment

Achievement for the Postgraduate Diploma and Postgraduate Certificate will be assessed by a variety of methods in accordance with the learning outcomes of the programme and will involve the achievement of the students in:
- evidencing an ability to conduct independent in-depth enquiry within the discipline;
- demonstrating the ability to apply breadth and/or depth of knowledge to a complex specialist area;
- drawing on a range of perspectives in an area of study;
- evaluating and criticising received opinion;
- make reasoned judgements whilst understanding the limitations on judgements made in the absence of complete data.
