Year 1
Learning outcomes
On completion of Level 4, you should be able to:- use and understand very good written and spoken general and academic language to suit a clear communicative purpose;- demonstrate a comprehensive lexical resource and range of structures, and an ability to use these coherently, accurately and fluently in academic communication;- demonstrate a very good understanding of the expectations of study in the UK, including an ability to think critically;- demonstrate an understanding of the culture, context and discourse of academic study in your future field.
Transferable (key) skills
On Level 4 you should begin to develop the following transferable skills:- evaluation of sources and selection of information;- taking comprehensive notes and integrating sources into your own work;- efficient use of paraphrasing and referencing skills to avoid plagiarism;- managing your study time effectively;- identifying personal strengths and weaknesses, and setting independent learning goals;- using independent learning resources;- working with others to realise learning tasks.
Assessment
Level 4 will be assessed by achievement in:- researching and writing a report or essay;- delivering an individual presentation;- academic listening and reading texts.
