Learning outcomes

On completion of the year/programme students should have provided evidence of being able to:
- a basic knowledge of the Asia-Pacific with specific reference to its history, geography, political and economic development;
- a familiarity with methodologies and theories drawn from a variety of disciplines relating to the study of the region;
- a simple application of concepts from different disciplines as a means of understanding and explaining the region;
- an ability to locate and use a range of relevant information and resources relating to the region, including internet-based resources;
- an ability to use basic generic and subject specific skills such as communicating the results of their work, presenting a structured and coherent, simple argument, interpreting and evaluating the underlying concepts of relevant disciplines.

Transferable (key) skills

Students will have had the opportunity to acquire, as defined in the modules specified for the programme:

- qualities and transferable skills related to the subject area(s) studied, valuable for employment, eg. be able to gather and process information from a variety of paper, audio-visual and electronic sources, be able to use IT effectively both as a means of communication and as an aid to learning;
- skills necessary for the exercising of personal responsibility;
- the ability to appreciate their strengths and weaknesses as learners.

Assessment

Achievement will be assessed by a variety of methods in accordance with the learning outcomes of the modules specified for the year/programme and will include:
- demonstrating the knowledge and application of standard concepts, information and techniques relevant to the area of study;
- work that covers a restricted area of the subject;
- demonstrating emerging abilities, skills and competencies.
