BA Interdisciplinary Studies with Preparation for Higher Education
Year 1
Learning outcomes
On completion of level 0 students will demonstrate knowledge and understanding of :-The ways in which academic concepts and theory are generated, applied and critically examined in a range of disciplinary areas;-Basic concepts and theoretical approaches associated with study of one of the following: societies, education, psychology or human biology;-Ethical issues associated with one of the topics covered on the course and the different ways in which these can be approached; -Some of the key global and cultural dimensions of their area/s of study; -How to use basic generic and subject-specific intellectual qualities to -Communicate the results of their work,-Present a structured and coherent simple argument-Interpret and evaluate some basic concepts and principles of their chosen fields of study,-Their strengths and weaknesses as learners
Transferable (key) skills
Students will have had the opportunity to acquire, as defined in the modules specified for the programme:-ability to analyse and critically evaluate basic issues in the subject disciplines covered on the course;-academic skills required for basic enquiry along with the ability to communicate information, understanding, arguments and analysis in a variety of forms;-ability to make effective and critical use of electronic resources for their learning;-ability to plan for their own personal and professional development .
Assessment
Achievement will be assessed by a variety of methods in accordance with the learning outcomes of the modules specified for the year/programme and will include:-opportunity to demonstrate understanding of relevant concepts and theoretical perspectives in the subject disciplines covered on the course;-use of a range of formats for assessed work that develop skills of effective communication for an academic setting;-encouragement to explore new ideas and to test and evaluate received opinion.
