Learning outcomes

On completion of the year/programme students should have provided evidence of being able to:
- Demonstrate an understanding of specialised knowledge in regional MSK disciplines;
- Demonstrate a critical understanding of the connections between the key disciplines that underpin musculoskeletal medicine;
- Demonstrate a critical understanding of the acute responses of the human body as applied to exercise and physical activity participation, in particular the anatomical and physiological changes, as well as acute maladaptive responses leading to injury;
- Demonstrate a critical understanding of the fundamentals of rehabilitation based on these principles.
- Demonstrate an in depth, critical understanding of the connections between the key disciplines that underpin sport and exercise medicine;
- Demonstrate a critical understanding of the chronic adaptive responses of the human body to exercise and physical activity participation, including anatomical and physiological changes, as well as chronic maladaptive responses sustaining injury or impeding recovery;
- Demonstrate an awareness of and ability to manage the implications of ethical dilemmas and work pro-actively with others in the MDT to formulate solutions whilst strictly adhering to professional codes of conduct in musculoskeletal medicine;
- Demonstrate a critical understanding of the fundamentals of rehabilitation based on key MSK principles.
- Demonstrate critical awareness of contemporary issues and be able to synthesise information relevant to the practice of musculoskeletal medicine;
- Demonstrate a level of conceptual understanding that will allow her/ him to evaluate research and methodologies, and argue alternative approaches to the assessment and treatment of patients.

- evaluating their own achievement and that of others;
- self-direction and effective decision making in complex and unpredictable situations;

Assessment

- demonstrating the ability to apply breadth and/or depth of knowledge to a complex specialist area;
- drawing on a range of perspectives on an area of study;
- evaluating received opinion;
- making sound judgements whilst understanding the limitations on judgements made in the absence of complete data.
