BA Sustainable Fashion

Learning outcomes

On completion of the year/programme students should have provided evidence of being able to:
1. Understand and demonstrate coherent and detailed subject knowledge and professional competencies some of which will be informed by recent research/scholarship in sustainable fashion.
2. Engage critically with key theories, concepts and debates relevant to sustainable fashion.
3. Present comprehensive and sophisticated arguments about the role of sustainability for fashion and its impact on society and environment, and influence on human behaviour.
4. Make appropriate use of scholarly reviews and primary sources in the field of sustainable fashion and related areas.
5. Understand and apply ethical practice in context of fashion.
6. Evaluate the appropriateness of different approaches to problem solving associated with sustainable fashion.
7. Demonstrate professional attributes and skills necessary for success in sustainable fashion: problem solving, autonomous working, conform to professional boundaries and norms where appropriate

Transferable (key) skills

Students will have had the opportunity to acquire, as defined in the modules specified for the programme:
1. Qualities and transferable skills necessary for employment related to sustainable in the fashion industry: the ability to write concisely and effectively; to work collaboratively as part of a team; to respond imaginatively and flexibly to a brief; to access and utilise appropriate information; to problem solve; to communicate effectively in a variety of forms and to various audiences.
2. Skills necessary for the exercising of personal responsibility: organisational skills; self-motivation; working to a deadline; punctuality and attendance; awareness of ethics.

Assessment

the year/programme and will include:
1. Demonstrating the ability to apply a broad range of aspects of sustainable fashion
2. Work that draws on a wide variety of material.
3. The ability to evaluate and criticise received opinion.
4. Demonstrating a broad knowledge base and ability to conduct independent and in-depth enquiry within sustainable fashion.
