Learning outcomes

On completion of the year/programme students should have provided evidence of being able to:

demonstrate an appropriate level of proficiency in religious studies and key relevant areas of sociology and politics, including a familiarity with the basic concepts, information, practical competencies and techniques relevant to the area of study.

demonstrate a broad subject knowledge and understanding of theoretical and methodological issues involved in the study of religion in contemporary public life.

demonstrate an ability to communicate the results of their work, to present a structured and coherent argument, to evaluate data, and to identify key relevant and recent research and/or scholarship.

Transferable (key) skills

Students will have had the opportunity to acquire, as defined in the modules specified for the programme:

Qualities and transferable skills necessary for employment (Communication both written and verbal, Problem solving, Decision making, Ability to assess arguments, Ability to evaluate competing interpretations, Ability to construct and defend their own view, Ability to work with others, and Use of IT);

Skills necessary for the exercising of personal responsibility (Learning to Learn, Ability to organise time and submit work to deadlines, Awareness of their own strengths and weaknesses).

Assessment

Achievement will be assessed by a variety of methods in accordance with the learning outcomes of the modules specified for the year/programme and will include:

demonstrating the knowledge and application of standard concepts, information and techniques relevant to each of the disciplines;

work that covers a restricted area of the discipline;

demonstrating emerging abilities, skills and competencies in each of the disciplines.
