Learning outcomes

On completion of the year/programme students should have provided evidence of being able to:

demonstrate coherent and detailed subject knowledge and understanding, informed by recent research/scholarship in the study of Religion, Politics and Society both locally and globally;

demonstrate a conceptual understanding which enables the development and sustaining of an argument, which may be original, and which demonstrates a balancing of critical enquiry with sensitivity to multiple and conflicting interpretations and to the uncertainty, ambiguity and limitations of knowledge in the study of Religion, Politics and Society;

effectively deploy standard techniques of analysis, evaluation and enquiry;

show appreciation of the complexity and inter-relatedness of religion, politics and society in contemporary public life, and an ability to engage with cross-disciplinary themes in analysis of this complexity;

communicate effectively, using a range of relevant formats.

Transferable (key) skills

Students will have had the opportunity to acquire, as defined in the modules specified for the programme:

Qualities and transferable skills necessary for employment (Communication both written and verbal, Problem solving, Decision making, Ability to assess arguments, Ability to evaluate competing interpretations, Ability to construct and defend their own view, Ability to work with others, and Use of IT);

Skills necessary for the exercising of personal responsibility (Learning to Learn, Ability to organise time and submit work to deadlines, Awareness of their own strengths and weaknesses).

Assessment

Achievement will be assessed by a variety of methods in accordance with the learning outcomes of the modules specified for the year/programme and will include:

demonstrating the ability to apply a broad range of aspects of each of the disciplines;

work that draws on a wide variety of material;

the ability to evaluate and criticise received opinion;

evidence of an ability to conduct independent enquiry within the disciplines.
