BSc Business Studies With Foundation Year

Year 2

Learning outcomes

On completion of the first two years of the course, students should have provided evidence of being able to:

1.Apply knowledge and understanding of the nature, purpose, function and structure of different types of organisations.

2.Demonstrate a critical understanding of the inter-relationships between organisational structure, culture and the wider organisational environment and the impact on organisations brought about by changes in the internal, external and global environment.

3.Apply a critical understanding of theories of business management across a range of organisational contexts in the areas such as innovation and enterprise, marketing, organisational behaviour, organisational environment, management, economics and accounting.

4.Demonstrate an understanding of digital, academic and professional literacies within business related disciplines.

Transferable (key) skills

Students will have had the opportunity to acquire, as defined in the modules specified for the programme:
-ability to analyse and critically evaluate issues in business management and to relate theoretical understanding to practice;
-academic skills required for enquiry along with the ability to communicate information, understanding, arguments and analysis in a variety of forms;
-ability to apply learning to practical situations and to gain from experience of work;
-professional qualities and skills necessary for employment and professional development in business management roles.

Assessment

Achievement will be assessed by a variety of methods in accordance with the learning outcomes of the modules specified for the year/programme and will include:
-opportunity to demonstrate understanding of relevant concepts and theoretical perspectives in business management and ability to apply these to practical settings;
-use of a range of formats for assessed work that develop skills of effective communication for both academic and professional settings;
-encouragement to explore new ideas and to test, evaluate and criticise received opinion.
