BA East Asian Studies and International Relations

Learning outcomes

At the end of L2 you will be able to:
1. Demonstrate a broad understanding of concepts of International Relations and East Asian studies.

2. Demonstrate the practical competencies and techniques which are standard features in International Relations.

3. Learn strategies for finding, critically evaluating, and synthesising information from diverse and specialised sources related to a specific area of East Asian interest, such as culture, history, politics, or society.

4. Demonstrate awareness of some of a range of debates within International Relations and East Asian studies.

5. Demonstrate and appreciate the constraints and opportunities faced by various international actors such as international organisations, states, multinationals, nations, peoples, and other non-state actors.

6. Appreciate and critically evaluate the appropriateness of different theoretical approaches used to understand the processes and dynamics of the two disciplines.

7. Be able to make arguments and evaluations of the main debates within the study of the two disciplines.



Skills Learning Outcomes
At the end of L2 you will be able to:
1. Retrieve, organise, and produce complex summaries of information and/or data, and to generate new data.

2. Assemble complex arguments and assessments and be able to evaluate and criticise the arguments of others.

3. Work with others in a collaborative way and understand the challenges such collaboration.

4. Have a developed understanding of digital technologies and be able to use them to retrieve data and information and to communicate this information to others.

Competence Standards
1. Identifies and evaluates relevant knowledge, theories, debates, in International Relations and East Asian Studies.

2. Makes and justifies decisions about choice of materials, components, and methods in International Relations and East Asian Studies.

3. Plays a role in the field by communicating knowledge and viewpoints about International Relations and East Asian Studies to others.

Assessment

Achievement will be assessed by a variety of methods in accordance with the learning outcomes of the modules specified for the year/programme and will include: (1) demonstrating the knowledge and application of standard themes, concepts, and theories relating to International Development; and (2) demonstrating emerging abilities, skills and competencies in a variety formats. These formats may include: essays, reports, learning logs, blogs, literature reviews, presentations, poster-presentations, and podcasts. Assessment will be both formative and summative, and will be supported with feedback.
