MA Political Communication(Part-Time)

Learning outcomes

On completion of the programme students will be able to:
1) Explain the depth and scope of political communication as a field of study, encompassing the complex relationship between the media and modern politics;
2) Interpret key debates in political communication and critically evaluate the validity of competing approaches;
3) Reflect critically on the ways in which the media interact with, influence, and are influenced by political processes and institutions.
4) Evaluate key innovations in the practice and study of political communication

Skills Learning Outcomes:
1) Advanced communications skills: The ability to communicate complex ideas on political communication and communications theory effectively to an academic and non-academic audience.
2) Critical thinking skills: The ability to weigh up different arguments in the field, using supporting evidence from a range of scholarship to form theories and ideas on mediated politics.
3) Teamwork: The ability to research, plan and present a group project on relevant real-world political communication case studies.

Assessment

Assessment across the programme is by essays, a dissertation and verbal presentations.
