MA International Communication(Part-Time)

Learning outcomes

On completion of the programme students will be able to:
- identify and evaluate the major theoretical positions in the study of international communication and be able to apply these in their own research and advanced scholarship
- explain the reasons for variations in the political, economic and social/cultural aspects of mass communications across nations and regions
- critically and creatively evaluate concepts, prominent issues, and research approaches at the forefront of international communication
- analyse the role of media and communication technologies in political and social change at the national and international levels, and demonstrate awareness of the major domestic and international policies which govern these
- assess the role of the global cultural industries in international communication

Skills Learning Outcomes
- Advanced communication skills: the ability to showcase an understanding of cultural diversity and communicate effectively across cultural contexts to analyse structures and processes of international communication
- Critical reflection: the ability to critically consider and reflect on global hierarchies of knowledge production and an ability to evaluate and synthesize information from multiple cultures and contexts.

Assessment

Assessment across the MA International Communication is carried out through a range of formats, including but not limited to, essays, reports and a 12-12,500 word dissertation.
