Learning outcomes

1. Appreciate and articulate the political, social and economic value and function of audiences in relationship to the cultural sector

2. Critically evaluate the role of audiences and participation on contemporary practice within the arts and cultural sector using theoretical frameworks as well as practice

3. Develop an understanding of the underlying principles of cultural rights and the role participation plays within this through analysing international policy discourses around increasing participation in culture

4. Conduct independent research that responds to issues in the field of audience engagement and participation


Skills Learning Outcomes:

1. Search for, evaluate and use information from relevant sources to support arguments and draw informed conclusions

2. Undertake effective decision making and project management

3. Communicate intellectual and creative ideas effectively using a range of mediums

4. Develop an understanding of the field that supports professional development and ethical considerations in the field

Assessment

Students are assessed throughout the course with a balanced mix of assessment modes which are likely to include the following: individual or small group presentations, written reports, academic essays and an extended individual research projects.
