Objectives
To systematically explore the historical, socio-political and epistemological influences on the development of knowledge and theory in nursing; to critically examine and debate the challenges and implications of paradigmatic shift, brought about by the advanced nursing practice developments; to analyse skills , knowledge and leadership ability to influence, negotiate and lobby for integration, change and development in nursing practice; to critically analyse the issue of power and control in healthcare decision-making and advancing nursing practice at local, regional and national levels; to critically evaluate the contribution of nursing?s epistemology to supporting advanced nursing practice development in a specific area of healthcare provision; to demonstrate the ability to synthesise and integrate theory in advancing nursing practice.Syllabus
Historical, socio-political and epistemological influences on development of nursing knowledge and theory, implications for practice; analysis of levels of theory in nursing and their application to advancing nursing practice; consideration of the differences between specialist, expert and advanced nursing practice; political issues in advancing nursing practice in a healthcare arena; leadership skills - leadership styles; power and control; negotiating and lobbying skills; change and development in healthcare; responding to consultation documents; media presentation; editorial writing.
