Objectives

- Prepare students to study at a HE level
- Equip students with the knowledge and skills to plan their own professional development
- Equip students with the skills to become a reflective practitioner
- Equip students to become critical thinkers

Learning outcomes
On completion of this module students will have knowledge of:
-Some of the social, economic, political and ethical issues inherent in contemporary professional practice
-Theories of Learning
-Critical thinking, analysis and reflection
-The nature and purpose of different opportunities which are relevant to their degree and vocational aspirations
-Effective strategies for learning, time management, academic reading, research, academic writing and verbal presentations
-The Harvard referencing system
-Effective use of VLEs

Skills outcomes
Ability to :
-search for and critically evaluate academic information;
-write academic essays and reports;
-reflect on own development and practice
-link theory to practice

Opportunities for Formative Feedback

Formative assessments will feature throughout the module to prepare and familiarise students for the main assessments.
The use of a weekly reflective journal will also provide progress feedback and will be used to identify individual learning needs and plans
