Objectives

On completion of this module, students will be equipped to appreciate the processes involved in drafting manuscripts for dramatic performance and be able to demonstrate their understanding of the relationship between the written word and its performed manifestation through practical application.

Learning outcomes
Students undertaking this module will develop an ability to communicate successfully in a dramatic genre. They will be able to structure dramatic writing to work effectively on stage, and will develop skills in playwriting in relation to any or all of the following: character, plot, narrative, register, voice, mood, description, detail, dialogue and theatrical form. Students will acquire skills in editing their writing and communicating with an audience. Students will study a range of forms of dramatic writing and be able to see how they work as effective pieces of theatre.


Syllabus

This module offers students the opportunity to develop their creative skills as writers of original dramatic material. The module will be taught by a professional playwright.
