Objectives
On completion of this module, students will have encountered key works by D.H.Lawrence in a range of genres. They will also have had the chance to examine some themes which are central to an understanding of Lawrence's thought about his, and other, cultures; about the body; the unconscious; about sexual politics; power; nature. They will have been encouraged to develop an awareness of how Lawrence set about defining his own culture, and others', and of the kind of challenge which he offered to his contemporaries.Learning outcomes

Syllabus
This module will examine the major novels and short stories of D.H.Lawrence, alongside his poetry, and will make reference to aspects of his non-fiction. It will focus on key themes such as Lawrence's representation of the artist figure; his representation of modern sexuality; his discussion of Freudian psychoanalysis; politics; primitivism; nature. The module will draw attention to the critical reception of Lawrence, and to contemporary critical debates in which he figures.
