Objectives
To provide a simple, practical introduction to the effective use of information technology which will then be used in subsequent modules offered in the Leeds University Business School and in the world of work.Syllabus
An introduction to the concepts and terminology of IT; the development of word processing skills for producing reports; basic aspects of the use of both spreadsheet and database programs; presentation software; web page development; the integrated use of word processing and spreadsheets; the use of network resources including the world-wide web, bibliographic databases and electronic mail.

Private study
For each 10 credits of study taken, the expectation is that the normal study time (including attendance at lectures and tutorials, self-study and revision) is 100 hours. Daily drop in computer sessions are available during the term. An extensive range of tutorial materials will be provided to enable self-paced learning.Opportunities for Formative Feedback
Helpdesk staff are available on a daily basis to discuss progress with students. To provide additional, personalised feedback to students there is an opportunity to attempt all or part of last year's assignment paper and written comments will be provided.Methods of assessment
