Objectives

At the end of this module, students will be able to demonstrate an introductory knowledge of applied econometric techniques and appropriate software, and an ability to apply introductory econometric techniques to economic, accounting or financial analysis.

Syllabus

The nature of econometrics; the basic linear regression model; ordinary least squares (OLS); interpretation & assumptions of basic modes; multivariate regression analysis; problems in regression analysis: multicollinearity, autocorrelation, heteroscedasticity; and omitted variables.

Opportunities for Formative Feedback

Recognising the dual nature of the evaluation procedure in this module you are required to submit for evaluation two pieces of work to the instructor. (i) Course Work Guidance: Each student has the right to submit one of the three practice assignments for comments by the instructor. (ii) Practice Exam: The final piece of work will an in class test (50 minutes in length) that will have questions that are similar to those that you will face on the final examination.
