Objectives

At the end of this module, students will be able to demonstrate an ability to draw comparisons between relevant theories and apply theory to analyse policy and problems in economic development.

Syllabus

The policies and options open to LDCs to attain a higher standard of living for their population; the meaning and measurement of development; the role of the state in the development process; population and employment issues; agriculture and famine; industrialisation policies; financing of development from internal and external sources; the debt crisis; inflation and the balance of payments problems; and structural adjustment policies.
