Module summary
The purpose of this module is to examine the scope, content and methods of the discipline of political science and provide a guide to its key theoretical debates. The module covers the role of ; institutional approaches; behavioural analysis; rational choice theory; feminist perspectives; discourse theory; the structure agency debate; qualitative analysis; quantitative methods, and comparative approaches.For further information see the School of Politics and International Studies website. On successful completion of this module students will be able to:- demonstrate knowledge of the role of theoretical approaches to our understanding of politics, and be able to present a critical evaluation of differing approaches to political science through their written work;
- demonstrate knowledge of and critically appraise leading works by political scientists through written work;
- engage in seminar discussions and present oral arguments on topics in this module which are informed and cogent through small group work.
