Module summary
This module introduces students to the main debates about women and gender in development policy-making, and explores some of the specific issues faced by women in developing countries and attempts that have been made to address them.Objectives
This module is intended to assist students in understanding how gender relations impact on the development process at both policy and practice level. It will consider the different approaches that have characterized the integration of gender issues into international development, and will assess the extent to which government agencies and NGOs are 'gender aware'.Skills outcomes
Ability to comprehend and analyse competing concepts and to relate conceptual debates to policy practice and lived realities. Ability to understand the relationships between separate issues.
Ability to communicate complex ideas clearly orally and in writing.
